Frequently Asked Questions

How do we find out the real price if it says 'From £x'?

Select the product you are interested in and the full price will appear once you have moved the mouse away from the selection box. We have done this so you can see all the options on one page and avoid clicking through endless pages (as requested on our first survey). If this is annoying, let us know and we will revisit it.

Why do we pay postage per Mother of Innovation seller?

Smaller Mumpreneurs cannot produce large stock numbers and many products are produced to order, so we have set up the site so that each supplier dispatches direct to you. Because of the low commission rates we charge, we have an agreement with larger companies that postage and packaging is free, so we do try to minimise p&p costs.

What is the lead time?
The amount of time between ordering and delivery varies for each product. It will depend on a number of things, including the method of dispatch and whether that item is made to order. We have given you the amount of working days between your order being placed and your goods being dispatched. To work out when your goods will be delivered add the lead time to the estimated delivery time.

Why can't I put certain products into my basket?
We don't want to take money for things that we do not have available. Either you may see that a shop is 'closed' (this happens when we know that temporarily we cannot fulfil orders) or the stock may be low. If you are trying to order multiple items, try ordering less, and we may have the lower quantity in stock.

What does it mean if a 'shop' is closed?
Some products are handmade and if a Mum is temporarily indisposed (and we know that they can not fulfil an order) we close a shop until they get back on their feet again. This is only a temporary measure. However, when we cannot foresee a product being available in the longer term, we will remove it from the site altogether. Thanks for your patience with this!

Some items have both the British and Fairly Traded icon - how does that work?
Within certain product lines there may be variations, so all the icons for each possibility appear on the main product page. You can read about the variations in the full text or just select one option and the icons will be selected to reflect the attributes for that particular option. Often you may find that within a range there is one organic option, or (such as with Dribblebusters) some colourways are made in the UK and some are Fairly Traded.

Why don't you sell more basics?

Every Mum finds that some of the most useful things are the basics, a bale full of muslins and an endless supply of vests and babygrows* in the first few weeks. We can't compete with large companies on these items, so instead we sell great products made by parents who couldn't find what they were looking for in high street stores and supermarkets. So, for example, instead of a stack of anonymous babygrows on our site, you will find a gift set made from the softest organic cotton from a Mum who wanted to create a range that combined Fairly Traded ethics with style, or you can buy the cutest organic babygrows from a Mum who wanted to find an alternative to the ubiquitous stripes for her son.
* Yes we have issues with the spelling of babygro / babygrow - apologies. Babygro is a more common spelling but is a trademark so babygrow is often used instead.

Can anybody become a Mother of Innovation and sell through this site?

Potentially, yes, because we are always looking for new people to work with, but only if you are a parent, grandparent or carer. We need to know lots of information about you and your idea and we need a sample so we can check the quality. We only choose items that we would really want to buy ourselves, so we're looking for great people to work with who produce innovative products made to high standards. You can read a little more           here    .

Why does the URL change from MOIXX / Mothers of Innovation to Kid-shops.com?

This is just an SEO technicality, which has been recommended. It should make no difference whether you are viewing this site at MOIXX or Kid-shops. It is all the same thing: great products designed by those who know best.

Why don't you ship internationally?

We will do in time but, as with all babies, Mothers of Innovation needs a little time to establish itself and learn to walk comfortably before it can run. Besides, at Innovation HQ we can't wait to ship abroad to our lovely friends across the globe. Sign up to our newsletter and we will let you know when this service is available.

What do the Blue Arrows mean?

To help keep the checkout and delivery pages easy to read we pared down the visible information. However, where you see the blue arrows you can hover your mouse over these to see further information.

When goods are made to order, why does it appear that there are loads in stock?

Sorry, this is misleading, but to enable you to buy we have to ensure that one is in stock for each colour, design, and size option. If all these options are available, it may appear as if there are loads in stock.

We designed the site this way to try to avoid sales being made when we could not meet the order in a timely fashion.

Some of the products are ideal for eco or green living, so why is there not a search for this?

This was not initially planned, but please feed back to me if you would like one, and we will try to rejig the site accordingly.

Why don't we have...?

The site is a work in progress. If there is an omission in our range that you think you could fill - or know someone who could provide the answer - please let us know. You can either complete our survey or contact us direct (see links below).

Either way, we really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

As you are so new, where do your testimonials come from?

While the site is new, some of the products are tried and tested, so we can report back on what existing customers have said. For newer products, such as Rockin Hoods, we have given out samples for trial so we can let you know what our testers thought.

Any more questions?

We will be adding more answers as you ask questions. Either email us direct or complete our survey (that will enter you into a prize draw to win £50 to spend on this site).
